Since this country began various groups have found equality to be elusive. Groups of people of color, women, people in the LGBTQ community, etc., have fought for equality. To people in these groups and their allies, equality is a pretty simple concept. Everyone deserves to be treated equally, no matter what their differences may be. However, certain people in our society don’t want everyone treated equally. They feel that people who are seeking to be equal are seeking special rights. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yet they continue to fight anyone who is different from them getting any of the rights they themselves have. While every group fighting for equality deserves equality, there are reasons that transgender people are suffering greatly by not having it.

Some of the problems facing transgender people run from employment and housing discrimination to high rates of violence. For instance, not only are employment and housing discrimination bad, they can also run hand in hand. Because if you have no income due to not being able to find a job, that can lead to homelessness. No income means you can’t pay your bills, such as rent. When it comes to housing, income is not always an issue for transgender people, some have jobs, have a spouse or significant other that can pay bills, or are on some kind of public assistance. But that doesn’t mean they won’t have a problem with housing. A lot of states also have no laws protecting transgender people from housing discrimination. So even if money isn’t an issue, a landlord can deny renting to someone simply because they are transgender. The problems with there being a lack of laws protecting transgender people against violence are even more of an issue because many transgender people are dying due to violence against them. One can try and find a way to find employment and housing, however, however, once one is dead, they can no longer fight for anything.Although most states have laws against discriminating against people in the LGBT community, the T in that usually isn’t covered. Most of those state laws cover sexual orientation and being transgender has nothing to do with one’s sexual orientation. After all, being transgender does not make someone gay. There is also a problem with hate crime laws that often prevent transgender victims of crime who were attacked simply because they were transgender from getting the justice they truly deserve. Hate crime laws carry a heavier penalty than laws for other types of violence. It’s not that hate laws don’t exist, they do. The problem is that many jurisdictions won’t call these crimes hate crimes. These are some of the reasons transgender equality is very important, of

Hopefully, the laws will start to happen, sooner rather than later.
